Scientific background

Scientific research has shown that there are all kinds of disturbances in overweighted people and that there are all kinds of disturbances that lead to overweight. A very important regulation system, which is involved in keeping the body and weight healthy and vital, is switching between storing excess food in times of food surplus and releasing fuel for the muscles and other tissues in times of food shortage.

The basis of storing fat and sugars is insulin. This hormone logically also blocks the release of fats by the fat cells. The main hormones that stimulate fuel release are adrenaline, norepinephrine, growth hormone and interleukin-6. All these hormones are made a little extra during a diet, strongly extra during fasting and sports and very strongly extra during and after exercise during a fasting program. This creates strong stimuli that encourage the body to switch from sugar to fat burning; the 'metabolic switch'.

Many overweight people have gotten their system in modus of storage and  only use of sugar in such a way that a normal diet and regular exercise are no longer enough to switch to fat burning. This makes it difficult to lose enough weight and people feel less vital. Insulin levels remain too high and hormones that release fat do not get high enough. The figure below shows what happens during a normal diet, a juice fast and a Sportvasten program with the fats in the blood and the metabolic switch from sugar to fat burning.

Figure 1 - Here is the supply of fat to the muscle (which is also a strong stimulus for that muscle to switch to fat burning) when doing sports or a regulier weightloss program, a juice fast without sports and during a Sportvasten program. Large amounts are produced during and after exercise created fat-releasing hormones causing a massive increase in it supply of fat creates sports. Along with a shortage of sugars in the muscles and in the rest of the body this fat peak provides a metabolic switch which greatly increase the fat burning ability. This fat peak can be measured using urine and blood tests.

The greatest metabolic switch is therefore found in muscle cells during the Sportvasten program. This depends on a number of switches. The metabolic switch is found also in other tissues, such as, in the liver, pancreas, brain and immune system. As a result, additional benefits of the Sports fasts often reduce a variety of complaints, including asthma, eczema, allergies and mood problems.

The following figure shows how this metabolic switch takes place at the level of the muscle cell and the ancient genes. This is very complicated matter that you probably won't understand, but it certainly illustrates how many factors and switches work together to create the wonderful effects of sports fasting. For example, fasting activates the substance SIRT1. This is a switch that amplifies the other switches. As a result, much larger signals are given than with sports without a diet or with a regular diet.

Figure 2: During exercise, there is an energy shortage in the muscle cell. Together with an energy switch (AMPK), hormones (adrenaline, growth hormone, interleukin-6 and thyroid hormone) ensure that there is a genetic switch is activated (PGC1). This switch ensures that the combustion factories (mitochondria) are extra produced in the muscle cells. Which fuel used for this purpose, fats or sugars, is determined by the switches PPAR and SIRT1. These measure the amounts of calories, fats and sugars. Simultaneous exercise and fasting provides a total metabolic switch to Fat Burning.

The results of the Sportvasten program are very fast and very good. For certain people who take a sports fast, it is recorded how much weight they lose and how well fats are released after sports fasting. If relevant, blood pressure, cholesterol and sugar metabolism are also charted. These values are recorded by a number of sports fasting coaches in the scientific evaluation system so that the method can be further developed and optimized.

Currently, the average weight loss is 4.2 kg for men and 2.7 kg for women during the course of treatment, and people lose much more in the months that follow. The 'record' currently stands at more than 11 kilograms in a man, after 10 days of sports fasting. As soon as your body is fully adjusted to the “fat setting” and is back in balance, weight loss stops automatically. Slim people therefore lose much less weight and often regain their weight after the sports fast treatment until they are on a balance of a certain fat percentage. Perhaps the best result is that people have a permanent solution to the problem of overweight. In the long term, we see that almost everyone maintains his or her lower weight by applying the knowledge gained as a result of sports fasting.
