(Unexplained) headaches, migraines and the trigeminal nerve

Writer: Aschwin van DiermenAschwin van Diermen

Headache and everything that goes with it, such as migraine, cluster headache and facial pain. Often not understood where this really comes from. You are left with extreme pain and heavy pain medication and probably the necessary side effects.

Some people have these issues during periods of stress or in women during menstruation, but also many people have this continuously and the quality of life decreases considerably. It occurs in adults and children, a large group is disabled because of this and children can sometimes no longer go to school!

So we are talking about headache and everything that goes with it, such as migraine, cluster headache, facial pain, tingling and or a numb feeling in the face. Often not understood where this really comes from and people are left with extreme pain and heavy pain medication and probably the necessary side effects.

Symptoms of Trigeminal neuralgia

Some of the symptoms that I mention below are sometimes not even linked to Trigeminal neuralgia and this group has no diagnosis and they continue to search for the cause.

  • Pain on the side of the head

  • Pain behind the eyes

  • Pain can extend over the head to the neck and sometimes even to the shoulders

  • Some people only have tingling on one side of their face, one feels it on the skin and another feels it under the skin.

  • You can have tingling on the side of your head and you can feel weakness on the side of your head. This can give you a completely different diagnosis!

  • Burning sensation on the side of your face

  • Burning sensation in the jaw

  • Burning sensation in your gums

  • Very sensitive to light and sound

  • These are all different symptoms, some have one symptom and others have a combination or even all symptoms.

  • You can have a burning sensation on one side of your face with different symptoms, but it can also be on both sides of the head.

  • You can have a burning sensation in the mouth

  • You can have a burning sensation only on the tongue

  • You can have all of these symptoms with pain, without pain or pain with tingling, without tingling.

  • You can have excruciating pain in the ear and some have excruciating, stabbing pain in the corners at the bottom of the ear.

  • You can have stabbing pain that shoots through to the neck, with or without tingling. The stabbing pain can be compared to an extreme toothache, only without hope that it will go away, because people do not know what the cause is. You can probably think of worse diseases, but I have seen this in people, it is terrible and you feel hopeless and you have no prospect of recovery. Even I as a therapist sometimes find it difficult to see, there are very serious cases among them!

Some also go to the dentist, because they are looking for answers, a solution! You can have sensitive teeth and have reactions to cold and hot drinks, without there being cavities or your enamel having become thin. Dentists open the gums, do root canal treatments, just to find a cause.

An inflamed trigeminal nerve can also inflame the eyes, sometimes you can't even open your eyes. Your eyelids stick together.

An inflamed trigeminal nerve moves, it can start small and quickly more symptoms appear. The complaints can become very severe and can become milder or even disappear, only to come back severely at a later time.

It can be triggered by something small, such as a bad confrontation with someone, it can be a cold or a flu, but it can also be caused by stress. The stress can be caused by work pressure, divorce or the death of a loved one. The stress puts the body in fight or flight mode and as a result the immune system works a lot less and pathogens are triggered and the detoxification system has a harder time.

You often see complaints arise in other places in the body because the trigeminal nerve has a connection with the Nervus Vagus and the Nervus Vagus runs through almost the entire body. You can think of: tics and spasms, tinnitus, tremors, body pain, dizziness, burning skin, anxiety and panic disorders, tightness in the chest, cotton wool in your head (brainfog), dizziness, muscle spasms, weakness of the limbs, atrial fibrillation, problems swallowing, difficulty breathing in and out deeply, cold hands or feet, feeling of poor blood circulation, stiffness of the jaw, restless legs, pain in the neck or a strange gnawing feeling in the stomach.

What is the cause?

Regular care suspects that it is caused by viruses, but this is still in its infancy. There is no regular treatment for this either and that is probably why little is done about it. These suspicions are certainly true! Neurological complaints that have arisen spontaneously and cannot be linked to, for example, an accident, are caused by viruses. Viruses leave behind substances; waste products, toxins, neurotoxins, whatever you want to call them, these substances inflame the nerves and cause these inexplicable complaints. Dead viruses can also be triggers, because they put more strain on the liver. As a treatment, there is only pain medication, but there is no solution. Recently, a technique has been developed in which an implant is placed in the head that switches off the nerves that cause the pain. This was recently in the news and has now been applied to one person. Results will follow.

Treatment

Many people who suffer from these complaints have already tried everything, but full recovery depends on many things. Which supplements are used, do they contain unnecessary substances (also read https://www.innerfresh.nl/post/zijn-supplementen-echt-nodig). These 'unnecessary substances' can also be triggers. So you think you are doing well, but actually you are feeding your complaints! The diet must also be correct and this is even more important than supplements. With nutrition it is especially important that you know when you eat 'what' and when not. And certain nutrients should not be eaten at all, such as gluten for example.

In addition, fat is a problem, fat blocks the absorption of glucose from fruit, potatoes and more. You need the glucose from fruit, potatoes etc. to feed every cell in your body and is also necessary so that the liver can clean up the body. It is often said that glucose is the culprit, but this is far from true. Read my blog 'The fear of fruit'. It is also important that you remove the waste products that viruses leave behind and the viruses that have died must also be able to be removed. Even if you have eliminated the virus and not removed these waste products, you can still trigger the symptoms! The body must therefore be detoxified, but in a mild manner. If you do not do this, the liver will not keep up and you will pump other waste products into the body, which can also trigger things again.

Full recovery takes time, but people often feel results quickly.
